Religious press published in the first half of the 20th century in the West Bohemila
Špiclová, Zdeňka ; Suk, Pavel (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to review the religious press, published in the first half of the 20th century in the West Bohemia along with its brief description. The first part outlines the situation which prevailed in our country in the first half of the 20th century, the political, cultural and social. Furthermore, I deal with events that were significant for the church at this time. At the end of the first part I mention the religious press published in the period, especially I will deal with Catholic titles. The second part gives an overview of believers in various churches in the years 1900 - 1950 and the situation that prevailed in the religious environment in the Pilsen area. The last part briefly describes each title in terms of formality and content. There is mentioned, who was editor and publisher of each title, who was redactor of a journal and where it was printed. I mention the periodicity of the title, the period in which the issue had been published, who was it aimed for and what was the content focused on.
Land use change in the Cheb area - new wilderness
Pekárková, Hana ; Bičík, Ivan (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
The theses deals with exploration of new wilderness which comes into being in abandoned areas in border regions in the Cheb district. Using the newly defined transformation index, two cadastral territories in the district were identified with the highest probability of new wilderness occurence. The occurrence of a new wilderness was demonstrated in both cadastral areas and was categorized into typology already established. Photographs and ArcGis maps were added to the field survey. Post-habitat and post-agrarian new wilderness were identified in both cadastral territories. Further, there were identified post-montane and post-aquatic new wilderness. Despite the position near the border, where the Iron Curtain was located, post- military new wilderness was not identified there. New wilderness occurs in both localities on more than 10 % of area. Keywords: Land use, change of landscape, new wilderness, West Bohemia
Earthquake swarms in diverse tectonic environments: West Bohemia and Southwest Iceland
Jakoubková, Hana ; Horálek, Josef (advisor) ; Cesca, Simone (referee) ; Málek, Jiří (referee)
In my doctoral thesis I have investigated earthquake swarms from two com- pletely different tectonic areas, West Bohemia/Vogtland and Southwest Iceland, with the aim of gaining a deeper insight into the nature of earthquake swarms in diverse tectonic environments. I analysed swarm-like activities from West Bo- hemia and Southwest Iceland from the perspective of statistical characteristics (magnitude-frequency distribution, interevent time distribution), seismic moment release, and space-time distribution of events. I found that the ratio of small to large events and the event rates are similar for all the activities in both areas, while the rate of the seismic moment release is significantly higher for the South- west Icelandic swarms. Seismic moment released step by step is characterised for the West Bohemia swarms, whereas seismic moment released in one dominant short-term phase is typical of Southwest Icelandic earthquake swarms. All the West Bohemian swarms took place in a bounded focal zone Nový Kostel that is fairly complex, consisting of several fault segments. The Southwest Icelandic swarms are distributed at much larger area along the Mid Atlantic Ridge up to its branching in the Hengill triple junction, the individual swarms clearly reflect a tectonic structure of respective focal areas. I have...
The crust/mantle boundary in geodynamically active area of West Bohemia
Podolník, Jan ; Hrubcová, Pavla (advisor) ; Málek, Jiří (referee)
The region of West Bohemia is one of the most geodynamically active areas of Central Europe. The activity is characterized by many natural phenomena such as recurrent seismic swarms. The crustal structure of the region was subject of many geophysical investigations that revealed increased reflectivity of the lower crust. In this thesis, we adapt the multi-azimuthal approach for the detection of crustal discontinuities developed by Hrubcov'a et al. (2013). We apply the ap- proach on waveforms of the 2000 and 2008 swarms that occurred in the Nov'y Kos- tel focal area registered by several German stations. Analysis of the data of more distant German stations allowed expanding of the information about the depth and character of the crust/mantle transition in a broader area of the West Bo- hemia region. The results show a thickening of the zone in Germany with in- creasing distance from the epicentral area. Such findings are in agreement with previous active and passive seismic experiments.
Main events happened in Plzeň in 1989 and their reflection in the local daily Pravda
Nová, Alena ; Suk, Pavel (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
This diploma thesis strives to find an answer to the question of how the regional daily paper Pravda published by the West-Bohemian Regional Committee of KSČ in Pilsen informed about the principal events of the year 1989, namely the series of January demonstrations in the centre of Prague later called "Palach Week", about the Several Sentences Petition published in the midyear by Charter 77, about the demonstrations organized on the occasions of the 21 August 1968 and 28 October 1918 anniversaries, and about the "Velvet Revolution" that put an end to the more than 40-year reign of the Communist Party (KSČ) in Czechoslovakia. The thesis also ascertains to what extent the information provided by Pravda was distorted by the regime propaganda, and compares the approach of this daily paper to informing about the principal 1989 events with that of the central KSČ daily Rudé právo. The diploma thesis also describes the way of how the West-Bohemian Regional Committee of KSČ in Pilsen assessed the development of the political situation in the country in the year 1989 and how it controlled the Pravda daily paper. The theoretical part of the thesis familiarizes with the political and economic situation in Czechoslovakia in the 1980s and describes the relevant milestones in 1989. The thesis core part is the...
The Genealogy of the Plzeň Revolt on June 1, 1953: An Analysis of Public Collective Protests of the Plzeň City Population in the Years 1948-1953
Šlouf, Jakub ; Randák, Jan (advisor) ; Kopeček, Michal (referee) ; Křesťan, Jiří (referee)
The presented dissertation thesis analyzes one of the largest protests of the Czechoslovak Stalinism-era - the Plze revolt against the currency reform in June 1953. From a conceptual perspective, the work draws on the theory of the so-called new social movements. Therefore it sets the well-known Plze incident into the context of previous protest actions that occurred in the Plze region in the course of the years 1948-1953. This method enables the author to chart the development of several varied protest cultures which had been employed in particular parts of society in Western Bohemia on a long term basis and which inspired the inception and the course of the Plze revolt in the year 1953. This way the work offers not only a considerably more precise critical description of the June protests but also their cultural genealogy. By the means of this genealogy the author reveals the structure of the main social movements that took part in the revolt and an associated complex of social conflicts that caused the protests. There were in particular the following three: a socially-motivated strike movement of industrial blue-collars, a pro-western movement of both student and blue-collar youth and a latent tension within the communist party which was becoming evident through a passive resistance of its rank...
